Clane finish strongly to defeat Allenwood with a bit in hand

The opening half of this Joe Mallon Motors SFC was a very pedestrian affair, after the passion and intensity of the Athy v Sallins one that preceded it and it was Allenwood who got off to a flyer with Johnny Byrne raising the orange flag after two minutes.

Two Shane O’Sullivan frees reduced the lead before Eoin Bagnall grabbed a two-pointer with nine on the clock.

Daragh Mallahy replied for the men in white before his side hit a mini scoring spree hitting four points in a row.

Johnny Byrne replied for Allenwood before Harry O’Neill punched over to leave the score at Clane 0-7 Allenwood 0-5 with 26 gone.

Then a long ball in from Adam Fitzpatrick seemed to go all the way to the net though Cian O’Donoghue was in close proximity and that is the way it ended at the break Clane winning, having played against the wind 1-7 to 0-5.

Eoin Bagnall hit two frees for Allenwood on the resumption but Clane replies with two points from the impressive Adam Fitzpatrick.

Eric Judge, on a matter of seconds, then found the Clane net and two more pointsleft just a point between them on 44 minutes.

However Clane stepped it up again 1-5, two two-pointers from substitute Killian O’Sullivan and a goal from Fitzpatrick that saw them run out comfortable winners on a final score line of Clane 2-17 Allenwood 1-13.
