Tyrone footballer Cathal McCarron could be making a shock switch to Kildare club football after claiming that he has played his last game for his club, Dromore, in his native county.
The controversial Red Hands star has been linked with a switch to Athy, and the chairman of the club has not poured any cold water on the rumours. Quoted in today's Irish Independent, Martin McEvoy stated;
“The club would be aware that he (McCarron) would hope to move to Athy.
“If he wanted to play senior football in Kildare, the club would be more than happy for him to play for us.”
KildareNow contacted an official from Athy GAA club for comment, but the person claimed to have no knowledge of any impending transfer involving the Tyrone man.
McCarron's girlfriend is from the Athy area, and McCarron trained with the club during his time at the Cuan Mhuire treatment centre where he was undergoing rehabilitation for a gambling addiction that caused huge upheaval in his life. McCarron cited the help he received from those in the town and those involved with Athy GAA as one of the reasons he was able to kick his gambling addiction.
The former All-Ireland winning corner-back tweeted on Sunday night to express his love for his home club after playing his last game for them, fuelling speculation of a club transfer.
