Dates fixed for Kildare minor footballers and hurlers opening championship games

The dates for the opening round of the Leinster Minor Football and Hurling Championships have been released by the Leinster Council.
The newly revamped Minor Football Championship is an under 17 competition that is open to players born from January 1st 2001 onwards. Kildare are due to begin their campaign against Wexford in St Conleth's Park at 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday May 7, and that will provide plenty of congestion on the GAA scene in the county as there are already three games down for decision across the Junior and Intermediate Football Championships, though they will be held in Hawkfield.
The Lilywhites are in the same group as Wexford, Carlow, Laois and Longford, and they will play each team in a bid to reach the championship semi-final.
The minor hurlers will be out five days later in the Leinster Championship when they host Antrim at 1.30pm in Newbridge. Kildare will be in a group with Antrim, Meath and Offaly, with the winner gaining a passage to the quarter-finals, while the rest of the teams will play in the preliminary round.
