Former Kilkenny star Michael Fennelly is part of Cian O’Neill’s backroom team for the 2019 season as the Lilywhites ramp up their preparations ahead of the new year. The Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman captained his club to the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship title on Sunday, while at the same time the Kildare players were busy going through their paces at a training day in the Curragh Camp.

The three time All-Star is one of four new additions to the backroom team, and he will be a performance coach that will be looking after player development according to O’Neill.

Galway man Sean Murphy will also be coming on board as a performance analyst, while Shane Mangan, a sports science specialist and lecturer in IT Tallaght, will be looking after player monitoring. Alan Courtney, a Commandant in the Irish Defence Forces who specialises in strategic management, has also been recruited as a logistics manager.

Jason McGahan and Liam Moggan have left their roles in the backroom team, with the former taking up a post as the first full-time head of athletic development in Kerry.
