GAA club in Kildare aiming to raise support by turning their players in Star Wars figures

The new Star Wars movie -titled Rogue One- was released just in time for Christmas, and judging by the amount of merchandise, television adverts and other little gimmicks surrounding the eighth movie of the franchise, it's fair to say that it is quite popular.

Celbridge GAA Club have been aiming to climb on the back of that popularity to help boost support for their own senior hurling team, and they have gone a unique way about it.

Their club facebook page have been putting up pictures of some of the stars of their senior hurling team from 2016, but have replaced their hurls with lightsabers and have designed them in the style of 'Jedi Special Edition Match Cards'. Veteran goalkeeper Niall Lanigan was the first to feature, while Niall O'Muineachain was the most recent.

The club have promised to share a new card each time a post gets 50 likes and five shares, so there could be another one popping up very soon.

The Celbridge hurlers enjoyed a fabulous 2016, capturing the county title for the first time since 2013 before losing out to a supremely talented Carrickshock side in the Leinster final in November.
