Good day for underage hurling in Kildare as U14 and U16 panels land national silverware

While there was some big club action taking place in the Kildare Senior Football and Hurling Championships yesterday, there were a couple of Kildare underage hurling teams who made ripples at a national level.
The Kildare U16 hurlers won the Michael Foley Tournament Division Shield in Ferns, Co Wexford, on Saturday afternoon. The Lilywhites were competing against teams from the top tier of hurling, and while they lost out to both Wexford and Tipperary in the first two rounds by narrow margins, they ended up winning the shield by easing past Westmeath on a scoreline of 3-14 to 0-1 and then earning a comfortable 2-7 to 0-5 win over Wexford.
Kildare captain Colmán O'Donovan from Celbridge received the trophy from the wife of the late Michael Foley.
