The father of a young girl who met Tyrone GAA star Cathal McCarron after matching with the footballer on the dating app Tinder is pleading with RTÉ and other television stations not to give McCarron any airtime to promote his new book.

McCarron met a 15-year-old girl from Kildare Town after matching with her on the app, though a court decided in July of this year that the footballer honestly believed that she was 19. Her profile suggested stated she was 19, and the court heard that McCarron had no reason to believe that she was only 15.

After finding out that his daughter had met the 28-year-old, the father rang McCarron to tell him to stay away from his daughter. The Dromore man was later questioned at Kildare Town Garda station, but the DPP decided not to press charges.

McCarron spoke about the incident in his new book, Out Of Control, and it is just one of a number of controversial incidents which have muddied the footballer's life.

The father of the 15-year-old girl from Kildare Town is begging RTÉ not to do an interview with McCarron on the Late Late Show, because it would allow the former All-Star to 'cash in' on the incident.

“To write the book so soon after the incident and to not express any remorse. What does that tell you? It feels like he wants to cash in on what he’s done,” he told the Irish Independent.

“I rang RTE and all other stations and begged them not to do any interviews with him. I emailed the complaints department RTE but all I got was a letter confirming the receipt of my email.

“I'm going to Donnybrook and that's it. That just can't happen, he can't appear on the Late Late Show. We are still pursuing the matter.

“If it transpires that he gets airtime and publicity after I gave my side of the story I would question the depths they would stoop to.”

The Late Late Show have stated that the line-up will not be revealed until the week of broadcast.

Meanwhile, the father of the girl has admitted that she is suffering from the psychological effects of what happened, and he also revealed what happened when he found out that his daughter met McCarron one evening.

“I rang him and asked 'what age are you?' He told me his age, then I asked him 'what the f**k are you doing with my daughter?' I was very angry.”

“My daughter had a breakdown. We had to get counselling for her. Counselling didn't go too well because she is not a very social person.

“We went through three or four counsellors before we found one that she would talk to. We didn't make much headway there either.

“She was in the psychiatric unit in Tallaght and she is on psychiatric drugs at the minute. She had another episode last weekend because that interview was in the paper. It was all over the place.

“She wasn't at school Monday or Tuesday. She is doing her Leaving Cert now this year and she couldn’t go to school. She can’t sleep so we have to deal with that.”

He has also stated that the family are still pursuing a legal case against McCarron, conceding he is not happy with the outcome of the first case.
