Kildare native Carew retained as Sligo senior manager for another year

Kildare man Niall Carew has be reappointed as the Sligo senior football manager for another year after the county board rubberstamped a new extension for the former Waterford boss.

Carew has been managing the Yeats County since 2015, during which time he led the Westerners to Croke Park where they lost to Tyrone in an All-Ireland qualifier. They retained their status in Division 3 of the National Football League this year but went out of the championship thanks to defeats to Mayo and Meath, though they did get the better of Antrim in the qualifiers.

St Kevin's clubman Carew previously managed both Robertstown and Ellistown in Kildare, leading the latter to a Senior Football Championship semi-final.

Carew's renewal will see him through the 2018 season with Sligo.
