Ladies Intermediate team line out against Wexford in opening round of All-Ireland C'ship campaign - note Baltinglass is the venue, at 2pm
By Rose Barrett 10:12 Sunday 15th of July 2018

All roads lead to Croker today as Kildare senior men's team take on the might of Monaghan at 2pm in the first of the Super 8s. Well, not quite all roads - as the ladies intermediate team will be lining out at 2pm in Baltinglass, Co Wicklow (note, not Crettyard as previoualy advised), kick off also 2pm.

Shame the two major fixtures had to clash. Daniel Moynihan's side will have it all to to do, having lost out to Wexford in the opening round of the Leinster Championship and with Wexford having beaten Kildare on three occasions this year.

Kildare are in group 3 along with Wexford, Clare and Down. Today's game is Round 1 of round robin series with the top 2 teams in each group advancing to the quarters.
The Lilywhites will play Clare next weekend, July 21 in Kinnegad and the week after (July 29), they face Down at the same venue.
Clare and Down have already played last weekend, with Clare coming out on top.

Despite their uphill task today, the mood in the camp is realistic but optimistic.

Roisin Byrne (Capt) with Wexford Capt at Leinster champ launch, Roisin's return to fitness will be a welcome boost to the team today.

Roisin Byrne is back to full fitness and will be a big boost for this afternoon's game. The ladies have been training hard and since losing the Leinster quarter final to Wexford, they have played some challenge matches and preformed extremely well.  The Lillies will need points early on the board to steady the nerves and gives themselves a fighting chance against their tough opponents.
A win today would be a great boost to players and management, and the perfect start to their championship campaign for 2018.

The Kildare minor ladies feature in one of the biggest games on the ladies calendar this weekend, as they go in search of All-Ireland glory. Gavan Doyle's side will play Roscommon in Moate at 2pm in the All-Ireland Minor B final.

After a great win by the minors in the Leinster semi final against Wicklow on Friday evening, followed by the U20s' procurement yesterday of a place in the All-Ireland against Mayo, it has been a great weekend for Kildare GAA football.

Let's hope we can keep it going this afternoon! Nothing is surmountable in the Kildare camp at the moment.

The Intermediate Team is:
Becky Mc Guirke (goalkeeper);  Rachel Cribbin; Amy Horan; Claire Sullivan; Louise Scully; Rachel Reidy; Triona Duggan; Aisling Curley; Siobhan O'Sullivan; Grace Clifford; Roisín Byrne; Molly Price; Niamh Sinnott; Ellen Dowling and Mikaela McKenna.
Subs Aoife Wosser; Eadaoin Connolly; Michelle Curley; Dervla McGinn; Roísin Forde; Caoimhe Keoghegan; Laura Quigley; Shannon Doheny and Shauna Kendrick (Gemma Harnett injured).
Ref Kevin Phelan (Laois).
