Joey Carbery, playing in his first ever game of knockout rugby and just his fourth European Champions Cup match, produced a man of the match performance for Leinster as the province reached the semi-final of the competition with a 32-17 victory over Wasps this afternoon.

Lining out at fullback, the Athy man consistently put Leinster on the front foot and often stepped in as first receiver to steer a Leinster attack that was full of verve and menace throughout.

It was no surprise when he set Isa Nacewa up with a wonderful pass to score the game's first try, and he was involved again for their second as he sent Suncroft man Fergus McFadden away, and his offload allowed Jack Conan to cross the whitewash for the Blues once again.

Robbie Henshaw'a try prior to half time helped cap a dominating first half display for Leo Cullen'a men as they went into the break with a 22-3 lead.

Wasps got back into the game with a couple of tries from Christian Wade and Jimmy Gopperth, but McFadden registered Leinster's fourth try seven minutes from time to ensure that they eased to a 32-17 victory and set up a semi-final encounter with either Clermont or Toulon later this month.
