As Naas RFC prepare to begin their first ever season in the heady heights of Division 1B of the AIL, they have issued a real statement of intent by securing the signing of former Connacht and Leinster winger Fionn Carr.

Carr, who is still just 30, joins the local club that he began his playing career with after enjoying six successful seasons with Connacht either side of a two year stint with Leinster. The winger is Connacht's highest ever tryscorer after amassing a total of 42 tries during his time at the Sportsgrounds in Galway, while he was capped at international level up through the youth ranks and with the Irish Wolfhounds.

He was also part of the Connacht squad that won the Pro12 title last year in one of the biggest shocks in Irish rugby history, though his game time was limited due to the form of fellow wingers Matt Healy and Niyi Adeolokun.

His signing is a massive bonus for Naas RFC, and the prospect of Carr linking up with former Munster centre Johne Murphy in the Naas backline is a thought that fans will be savouring as the clock ticks down towards the start of the new season.

Michael Dempsey, Director of Rugby at Naas RFC, stated: ‘’Naas RFC have been on a major upward curve in recent seasons and the firm objective is to continue in this fashion. The signing of a player like Fionn is an indication of this. He is a quality player, who will bring tremendous flair, professionalism and experience to the club”.

Fionn added: ‘’I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Naas RFC for the season ahead. This is where it all started for me. I have followed the rise of the club through the ranks of the All-Ireland League with pride in recent seasons. I have now been given the chance to further their progress, and it is a challenge I am looking forward to enormously”.

Naas begin their campaign with a home fixture against Galwegians on September 17th.
