Mixed night for Kildare men as Sigerson Cup final pairing is finalised

It was a mixed night for Kildare players in the Sigerson Cup last night as NUI Galway and UCD made it to the final of the Sigerson Cup, which will be held this Saturday in Santry.
On the winning side from a Lilywhite point of view was Naas man Brian Byrne, who played 50 minutes of UCD's marathon match-up against Ulster University. Byrne, who is currently playing with the Kildare senior hurling team, was part of a forward line featuring Dublin sensation Con O'Callaghan and Monaghan's Conor McCarthy, who scored six points in the 0-18 to 1-13 win for the Dublin college.
It took two periods of extra-time to separate the sides as UCD made it to their third final in a row.
The will face NUI Galway in that final on Saturday after the men from the west made it to their first decider since 2003 with a thrilling 2-12 to 0-15 win over DIT in Mullingar.
Johnstownbridge midfielder Sean Hurley was the top scorer for DIT in that game as he notched four points from frees, but it wasn't enough as goals from Eoin Finnerty and Sean Kelly powered the Galway college to a meeting with UCD.
