Naas crowned champions after comfortable victory over Skerries

Naas RFC will play their rugby in Division 1B of the Ulster Bank League after they were crowned Division 2A champions this afternoon following a comprehensive 33-10 victory over Skerries in Forenaughts.

Going into today's game Naas needed a victory to guarantee them top place ahead of Down side Banbridge, who trailed them by three points at the summit, so if they were to slip up, a Banbridge victory would have denied the Kildare men automatic promotion.

An edgy opening 25 minutes saw Naas take a 7-5 lead as Peter Osborne converted Ryan Casey's try, but theouthalf soon added two penalties to open up an eight point gap.

Second half tries from Johnny Holmes and Johnny Delaney more gave Naas a comfortable cushion over the Dublin side, while Peter Osborne's four successful penalties and three accurate conversions eased Naas towards victory and into the second tier of Irish club rugby.
