Newbirdge boxer Allan Phelan is set for a return to the boxing ring at the end of next month, after it was confirmed that the featherweight would join Kilcullen favourite Eric Donovan on the 'Celtic Clash 2' card at the National Stadium on Saturday May 22.
Phelan had been scheduled for a second professional fight on Irish soil on April 1, but the 'Táimid Laochra' card was cancelled on the week of the event, meaning his only fight in his home country came in February when he impressively dispatched of Johnson Tellez.
No opponent has been announced as of yet for Phelan, but it is expected in the coming days that it will be confirmed.
It is the second time that he joins Donovan on the same fight card, further enhancing the prospects of a potential Irish title fight between the pair. 14 fighters have been announced for the night next month so far, with Crank Whitehouse, Sean Creagh, Stephen Carroll, Vladimir Belujsky, Carl McDonald, Jay Byrne and Lynn Harvey joining Donovan and Phelan. There will also be debut dates for Keane McMahon, Liam Gaynor, John Joyce, and Regan Buckley on the packed card in the capital.
Tickets will be going on sale at the end of this week.
