Niall Kelly nets two goals as Kildare stars set up Sigerson Cup final meeting

There were some notable names amongst that side that went on to represent the Lilywhites at senior level, with Mick Constantin, Fergal Conway, Paul Cribbin, Tommy Moolick, Padraig Fogarty, Niall Kelly and Mark Donnellan all playing for the senior side in 2015. Sean Hurley and Paddy Brophy were also on that side and they would be key players in the senior set up now if they weren't in Australia, so the U21 grade has proved a good level for players to showcase their talents to the senior management.placeholder image

A brace of Niall Kelly(pictured above) goals helped UCD ensure they get the opportunity to bridge a 20 year gap tomorrow afternoon when they seek to capture the Sigerson Cup for the first time since 1996. The South-Dublin college were far too good for UL, who they beat in this afternoon's semi-final by 4-12 to 1-9.

UCD went into the game as overwhelming favourites, and considering the plethora of senior county stars they have at their disposal, their favourites tags was wholly warranted.

Kelly struck the third and fourth goals of the tie, with the first coming before the interval to guide his side into a 3-9 to 0-2 lead at the break. His second goal came in the 48th minute, before he was replaced by Kildare county team-mate Tommy Moolick three minutes later.

Moolick is only coming back from injury, though he could be in contention to start tomorrow afternoon's final as UCD manager John Divilly may look to freshen up his side due to the quick turnaround in games. The Leixlip man scored a point in his short cameo appearance.

Athy defender David Hyland also lined out at full-back for the victors, flanked by Monaghan star Ryan Wylie and Dublin's All-Ireland winning corner-back Mick Fitzsimons.

UCD will play DCU in the final at 2pm tomorrow, following the reigning champions victory over hosts UUJ in today's second semi-final. Monaghan ace Shane Carey was the star for the North-Dublin college, netting a goal early on and also tagging on a string of frees during an intense 1-14 to 0-13 win. Athy's Kevin Feely is part of the DCU side, and is likely to line out at full-back in tomorrow's final.
