This was the scene on the R401 road on the Kildare / Meath border when a tree came crashing down last September.

The incident happened near Clogherinkoe during Storm Ali which sparked an Orange Weather Alert in Co Kildare.

The heavy tree smashed through the windscreen of the vehicle.

Extensive damage to the car's front wing, bonnet, bumper and mirror.

The driver said: "I walked away with a few cuts and bruises, the car was a right off.

The fallen tree completely blocked the road and had to be cut up and removed by workmen.

The motorist said: "I was travelling from our home in South Kildare to Mulligar."

He added: "In a week a very good friend gave us a car free of charge  and we were back on the road."
