Members of 34th Dáil are set to nominate Micheál Martin as Taoiseach, this Wednesday morning, when they meet for the first time this year.
The Dáil will sit from 11am and the nomination process for the new Taoiseach begins a short time later.
It is anticipated that the Fianna Fail leader will be proposed and seconded by members of his party while Sinn Féin is set to nominate Mary Lou McDonald.
With the support of Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and several independents, Mr Martin's nomination will be ratified by a majority of the 174 TDs by the early afternoon.
He will then travel to Áras an Uachtaráin where he will be formally appointed to the office by President Michael D Higgins.

Afterwards, Mr Martin will return to the Dáil to finalise the makeup of the Cabinet which will be announced in the chamber later on Wednesday evening
The Cork South Central TD is set to continue in the role of Taoiseach until November 2027, when the post will rotate to Fine Gael leader Simon Harris.
