A number of motions focus on road safety in Celbridge and Leixlip

Road safety, transport infrastructure, housing and healthcare will be among the key issues discussed by councillors at the next meeting of the Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District on Friday, September 18.

A number of motions focus on road safety in Celbridge and Leixlip.

Councillor Declan Ryan is seeking the installation of a left-turn green arrow at the junction opposite St Wolstan’s Shopping Centre in Celbridge, saying the existing signal cannot be seen by motorists waiting to exit.

He is also calling for additional 30km/h or appropriate speed-reduction signage at St Patrick’s Park.

Councillor Bernard Caldwell wants the council to consider a safe pedestrian crossing at the entrance to Aldi in Leixlip, while Councillor Rupert Heather is seeking comprehensive road-safety measures on the R405 at Primrose Hill National School.

The Maynooth Road in Celbridge is also on the agenda, with Councillor David Trost seeking additional traffic-calming measures between the Tesco junction and Beatty Grove.

Councillor Paul Brooks is calling for a pedestrian crossing between Confey GAA and Confey Cemetery.

Several questions concern major infrastructure projects. Councillors will seek updates on the proposed Celbridge Active Travel Bridge, the new road beside the Kildare Innovation Campus on the Celbridge Road in Leixlip, and the Captain’s Hill upgrade.

Councillor Nuala Killeen is seeking an “Infrastructure First” approach to development in Confey, covering transport, schools, healthcare, recreation, utilities and emergency services.

Healthcare is also being raised, with Councillor Claire O’Rourke seeking action over reports of residents being unable to register with a GP in Celbridge because of capacity constraints.

Other issues include youth facilities, allotments, tree works, Roantree House, the Wonderful Barn area and dereliction in Leixlip Village.

The meeting will take place at 10am in the Council Chamber, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas.
