LATEST: Six-storey housing project gets permission in Kildare

Planning permission granted by Kildare Co Council
Planning permission has been granted by Kildare Co Council for a €155 million mixed residential development that will deliver 581 homes and a new neighbourhood centre on a 15.27-hectare site at Railpark, Maynooth.
The large-scale residential development, submitted by Cozone Ventures Ltd, is planned for lands west of the Rockfield development, northwest of the Parklands estate and northeast of The Grange residential development, which is currently under construction.
The scheme comprises 396 houses and 185 duplex and apartment units. The houses will include 59 two-bedroom, 275 three-bedroom and 62 four-bedroom homes, with a mix of terraced, semi-detached and detached properties.
The apartment and duplex buildings will range from three to six storeys and will provide 53 one-bedroom, 92 two-bedroom and 40 three-bedroom units. The apartments will include private balconies, terraces or gardens.
A new neighbourhood centre will form part of the development, featuring three main elements: Block A, Block B and a café kiosk, alongside a public plaza. Block A will include a 174 square metre health centre, a pharmacy and convenience shop at ground level, with 41 apartments above. Block B will provide a 762 square metre childcare facility and a further 48 apartments.
An additional 96 duplex homes will be distributed across five blocks.
The development will include 888 surface car parking spaces and 758 cycle spaces, as well as internal roads, pedestrian and cycle routes, six ESB substations and drainage infrastructure.
Significant public open space is also proposed, including a local park, linear park and pocket parks with children's play areas. Green roofs and photovoltaic panels are included in the scheme.
Access will be provided through two vehicular entrances from the permitted Maynooth Eastern Ring Road, with a new signalised pedestrian and cycle crossing.
The application was lodged in October 2025. Permission was granted following an appeal, with the final decision recorded in September 2026.
