An Garda Síochána is aware of the incident, which occurred in Kildare Town

Kildare County Council (KCC) has called out antisocial behaviour displayed towards fire service crews last week.

It follows after an incident in Kildare Town Friday, October 30 last.

During this incident, fire crews were attending a fire in a housing estate, when rocks and other objects were thrown at their vehicle.

A window on the vehicle was smashed, while one firefighter sustained cuts to their hand and arm.

When asked about the incident by the Leinster Leader, a spokesperson for KCC said: “Kildare County Council can confirm that at approximately 7.45 [pm] on Friday October 30 last, Kildare Fire Service personnel were subjected to anti-social behaviour, while attending an incident at a housing development in Kildare Town.

“A number of stones and rocks were thrown at the Fire Services Crew, breaking the driver’s side window of one fire appliance and causing minor cuts and abrasions to the driver’s hand.

“The driver remained on duty for the remainder of the evening, and the fire appliance has since been repaired.”

APPEAL

Speaking further about the incident, KCC said that it would ask that Fire Service Crews in Kildare ‘be allowed to carry out their work without fear of attack and return safely to their families at the end of an incident’.

KCC also asserted: “An Garda Síochána (AGS) is aware of the incident and Kildare Fire Service will co-operate fully with any investigation.”

Moreover, KCC pointed out that Kildare Fire Service attended approximately 35 Halloween-related incidents on the evening of Halloween 2026 (Saturday, October 31 last).

“During that period, crews also attended various other incidents, including road traffic collisions,” KCC added.

GARDA STATEMENT

“Upon arrival at the scene, the Fire Service were no longer on-site.”
