The O’Neill’s October Seis, now in its 14th year is due to return to Naas at the end of this month having been to Manchester, Westport, New York, Cavan and Athy in recent years. This one is gearing up to be a music packed weekend featuring many local and not so local performers with some travelling from Tewkesbury and Yorkshire! The O’Neill family, originally from Athy, Dad Joe, was in the Stardust Showband and taught many local children to play musical instruments. So, it is in Joe’s honour that his musically talented children gather together every October to share the traditions he taught them and all while raising funds for Charity. This year Bob & Tina O’Kelly are Hosting the Weekend on behalf of Kevin O’Neill (Naas) & they have chosen KARE Local Services on The Blessington Road & the IKA Renal Transplant Support Centre in Beaumont as the beneficiaries. Both carefully chosen as their daughter Colleen attends both centres. “We are very excited, nervous and honoured to be hosting the weekend” Said Tina, she added that the ethos of the weekend is Family sharing music but added she really hopes the people of Naas come and support the gigs to earn much needed funds for the charities. So, what can people expect? The weekend kicks off on Friday the 26th at 6pm on the Caragh Road Astro Turf pitches with a soccer match, The O’ Neill’s vs The Rest of The World, this is always such good fun! At 8.30pm that night the fun moves to The Town House Hotel where The October Seis Band kicks of proceedings followed by performers, Norah King, Jamie O’Neill, The Cavan Crossons, Corrie O & Co. (Band) & Many more! Saturday night they move to the lovely surroundings of Craddockstown Golf club for an 8pm start (admission €15). Beginning with The October Seis Band and followed by local well-known band ROSSA and if that wasn’t enough another local man with a fantastic band, CADO & The Delta Cats will ensure everyone dances the night away to his Rockabilly songs, both originals and covers, “these guys are a very special treat and I think people will love them” said Tina. Sunday night they move back to The Town House Hotel at 8pm and hopefully The October Seis Band will still have voices but fear not if they haven’t there are plenty more acts lines up! The O’Reilly family, The King Family, local man Dan McCabe and many more including VOICE OF IRELAND WINNER Pat Byrne, he is sure to have the place rocking by the end of the night! There will be raffles across the entire weekend with some great prizes up for grabs as well as a Big Draw with more super prizes including tickets to see Nathan Carter in the INEC! “Businesses have been very generous with their Donations, thanks in Particular to Jim O’Reilly of Teamsoft, Life Credit Union, Richie Whelan’s Menswear & Dennison’s Trailers who were particularly generous” said Tina.
