26 Oct 2016
The South Kildare Soldiers youths American football team have been crowned All Ireland champions with an undefeated season.
In the last two games, the Soldiers were so dominant that their opponents failed to score a single point while also putting up over 40 points on last years champions.
The squad is made up of lads from Kildare Town, Newbridge, Naas, Carlow, Carbury, Clane, Portlaoise and Edenderry.
The Soldiers are now two-time champions having finished in the top of the league for three years in a row but narrowly losing out to the Craigavon Cowboys last year on points difference.
Captains on the day were Kildare man Craig Dooley and Newbridge native Mary Carey. The team also included Edenderry men Jordan Farrell at Quarterback and top scorer of the league Tomiwa Oyewo at Wideout position.
The champs will be receiving their medals and trophy at Team Ireland training camp from the U20's head coach Russel Kerley on October 29.
