A mental health specialist based in County Kildare is preparing to launch a brand-new app which focuses on mental health education and awareness.

The Mental Education App will be launched later this evening (Friday, July 24) by mental health professional and Newbridge resident Paddy Maher.

The development follows after Mr Maher made headlines back in March when he hosted a mental health consultation in Kildare.

Taking to social media ahead of the launch, Mr Maher, who is also the co-founder of the suicide prevention organisation Reduce and Stop Suicide in Ireland, said: “I’m delighted to say that a lot of work has gone into the app over the last year.”

He added: “Hopefully that people get a lot from it; I think if people use this app and understand their mind more, [then] we’re going to improve our mental health and well-being to no end, and if we improve our mental health and well-being, [then] a lot of things are going to improve for everybody.”

Mr Maher’s upcoming app has been welcomed by the former Mayor of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, Fianna Fáil councillor Noel Heavey.

Cllr Heavey also called Paddy Maher a man that he ‘deeply respects’.

“He is a professional therapist in the area of mental health and has helped many many people over the past 25 years,” he asserted.

The Mental Education App will be launched by Mr Maher during a Facebook livestream event at 7pm.
