BREAKING: Man charged with murder makes court appearance in Naas

Body of deceased was found in garden
A murder accused was remanded in custody today following a court appearance today in Naas.
Padraig Delaney, 43, whose address was given as 6 The Lane, Eustace Demesne, Naas, faces an allegation of the murder of Shane Knott between April 3-14, at that address.
Detective Sergeant Enda Gallagher told of arresting the defendant at home on April 15 and when he charged him, the defendant replied “it was self defence.”
The court was also told that the day before a person contacted the garda expressing concerns that “there may be a body” at Eustace Demesne.
Gardaí went to the address and discovered the remains of the deceased.
Det Sgt Gallagher said a post mortem examination conducted by Dr Magaret Bolster indicated that he died violently.
The court also heard that a number of exhibits were seized by the gardaí, including timber.
He told the court that he is satisfied the incident occurred at the house and the 37 year old Mr Knott was found in the back garden.
He further said the deceased had head injuries but the investigation is in its infancy and he could not say what caused these.
The two men are relatives, the court was told.
Defending solicitor Tim Kennelly said the defendant is not working and receives a disability allowance. He added he cannot apply for bail and this will be done in another forum.
Mr Kennelly also requested legal aid to undertake an independent post mortem examination because he said a number of issues were put to his client which do not tie in with “an accurate version of events.”
He also requested legal aid to secure an independent examination of the crime scene.
Judge Desmond Zaidan said he had reservations about the applications because the information he was being provided with was “scant and general”. However he acceded to both after garda inspector Paul Reilly, after an adjournment, said there was no State objection to either request.
Inspector Reilly said he had consent from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for both applications.
Judge Zaidan refused an application for a restriction reporting the defendant’s address.
The matter was adjourned to Naas District Court on Thursday.
