Kildare family butcher celebrates national award after almost 140 years in business
Nolan’s butcher located in Kilcullen won the Business of the Year title at the Irish Family Business Awards
A family run butcher in Kildare has been recognised with a prestigious national award, with the popular butchers, Nolan’s of Kilcullen taking home the Retail Business of the year title at the Irish Family Business Awards.
Owner James Nolan accepted the award at a ceremony held at The Johnstown Estate in Co Meath, where he was presented with the award by broadcaster Matt Cooper.
With more than 600 businesses entered in the competition, the award is a significant achievement for the long established Kilcullen business.
Following the win, James thanked Goodbody Stockbrokers for sponsoring the event and paid tribute to the hard working team at Nolan’s Butchers, acknowledging their contribution to the business's success.
He also reflected on the family history behind the business, which was established in 1886 and has been run by four generations of the Nolan family.
James said he was sure the three generations who ran the business before him, particularly his father Andy, would have been very proud to see the family business receive national recognition.
The announcement has also prompted an outpouring of congratulations from loyal customers, with some highlighting their long standing connections to the Nolan family.
One customer revealed that their family has been buying from Nolan’s for four generations, remembering how their daughter was served by Andy when she was just four years old.
"Thats a lot of sausages down through the decades!!" they joked, adding that the award was "well deserved".
Another customer said they regularly travel from Carlow to shop at the Kilcullen butchers, praising its "top notch sausages and rashers and pudding".
Others described the news as "fab" and congratulated James, Emma and the wider team, with one customer declaring they "wouldn't eat a sausage from anywhere else".
The award is another brilliant milestone for Nolan’s of Kilcullen, who has been serving the community in Kilcullen for almost 140 years.
