Tributes pour in for Kildare man who was 'a stalwart of the both IFA and Clane GAA'

Tributes have poured in for 'true gentleman' John Behan, Painstown, Donadea, Co Kildare.

John passed away peacefully on February 10 2025 in the wonderful care of the staff of Mountpleasant Lodge Nursing Home, Kilcock.

Predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary, sister Eithne and brother Michael.

John is deeply regretted by his loving sisters Mary and Elizabeth, brothers Denis and Christopher, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Of many condolences/tributes posted on RIP.ie, one said: “Sincere condolences to the Behan family on John's passing. A stalwart of the both IFA and Clane GAA over many years. A true gentleman. May he now rest in peace.”

Another wrote: “Sincere Sympathy to Denis, Christopher, Mary, Elizabeth and the extended Behan family on the death of John. A true gentleman and a great Clane G.A.A stalwart, may he rest in peace.”

Another mourner added: “Our deepest sympathies to the Behan family on the passing of your beloved Brother, John. Remembering also his Nieces, Nephews and extended family at this sad time. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.”

While another one wrote: “Myself and John had enjoyable years as Selectors with Kildare Minor team John was a gentleman and loved the GAA. Sincere condolences to all the family Rest in peace John.”

John will repose at Oliver Reilly's Funeral Home, Woods House, Clane, (W91YPX4) on Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm, with prayers at 7pm.

Removal from Oliver Reilly's Funeral Home on Wednesday at approx. 10.30am to arrive at St. Patrick and St Brigid's Church, Clane for 11am funeral mass, followed by burial in Mainham Cemetery, Clane.
