Heartfelt tributes paid to Maurice on RIP.ie this week include: “So sorry to hear of Maurice's sad passing. My sincere sympathy to all the Cahill family. I will miss our many chats about rugby and hurling. He was so proud of the Limerick hurling team. A lovely man, one of nature's gentlemen.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.”

And: “Rest in peace Maurice. I always enjoyed our chats that began with the civil war and ended up on rugby. We bumped into each other in the park over the years and it was a privilege to raise a glass in his company.”

While another mourner wrote: “Deepest sympathy to the Cahill family. Rest in peace Maurice
(the loveable rogue ) and dearest friend and gentleman. You will be sorely missed my dear friend.”

And another added: “Maurice, what a beautiful soul. We chatted to you on a daily basis. A proud Limerick man who loved your sport but always wished for Mayo football to win the All-Ireland for me. You always asked after our family. I first met you in Lily's mini-market where every Monday morning we could be guaranteed a debate with you and Mikey over the weekend sport. Athy has lost a legend who we will always remember. We are grateful we had you in our lives. Rest in Peace friend.”

Maurice will repose in Thompson’s Funeral Home, Athy, his Funeral Mass will also take place in Athy and he will be laid to rest with his parents in Clouncagh grave yard, Newcastle West.

Full details will be published on Wednesday afternoon.
