Death occurs of well-known Naas, Kildare figure

The community of Naas, Co Kildare is mourning the passing of well-known local figure, Gerry Halton, who passed on September 3 last.

Gerry passed peacefully, after a long illness bravely borne, surrounded by his loving family at Naas General Hospital.

Gerry, Naas, Kildare and formerly of Navan, Meath, beloved husband of Marie and devoted father of Mark and Graham.

Forever loved and dearly missed by his loving wife and sons, brother Michael, sister Mary, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Tributes paid to Gerry on RIP.ie this week include: “Dear Marie,Mark and Graham: So sorry to hear of Gerry's passing. Will always remember meeting him on walks around Naas were we would discuss our Monaghan lineage! Such a good and nice man and very funny to boot..he will be very fondly remembered by all who knew him.”

And: “Deepest sympathy to Gerry's family. I knew Gerry from his Moat Club days, his DJ times, and as a colleague in Kildare County Council. He was always cheerful and pleasant to everyone he encountered. R.I.P. Gerry.”

While another mourner wrote: “Deepest sympathy with the Halton family and large circle of friends. Gerry was one of our most popular members and always a thorough gentleman. We all miss him.”

And another added: “Sincere condolences to Gerry,s wife Marie and sons Mark and Graham. Those of us who had the pleasure to work with him will miss the glint in his eye and the smile County Kildare is sprinkled with reminders of his positive influence on many communities where he used his common sense to sort problems and achieve good for those people including my own community Kilcock. Rest in peace my friend Many Kildare people thank you for the difference you made.”

Reposing at the family home on Friday, September 5 from 5pm to 7pm with Rosary Prayers at 6:30pm.

Funeral on Saturday September 6 with Requiem Mass at 10am in Church of Our Lady and St. David, Naas, followed by burial at St. Corban’s Cemetery.
