Get the train? 40 extra car spaces coming to Sallins station

Local TD James Lawless has confirmed that works will commence shortly to extend the car parking facilities at Sallins and Naas train station.
The extension will accommodate an additional 40 car parking spaces once opened at the end of November.
Deputy Lawless said “I had met with Irish Rail to raise my concerns and explain the urgent need to extend the car park in Sallins. I can confirm this will now take place. Construction on the site is to begin at the start of October and set to open at the end of November.
"40 extra spaces are very welcome for commuters who drive to the station before taking the train. I have, along with many others, experienced the difficulty of arriving to the station but continuing onward in your car to Dublin due to a lack of parking spaces.
“The 40 extra spaces will be installed on the Naas side of the train line and little to no disruption is expected at the site during the works.
“Since successfully lobbying to have Sallins and Naas train station included in the short hop zone, fares have been reduced by up to 50%. This has resulted in commuters driving from across Kildare to use the station. Therefore the car parking spaces are filled up quickly in the morning time.
“Separately following my requests I have been told additional drivers are currently being trained with a view to extra services being provided via the Phoenix park tunnel in the evening time. A new timetable is expected early next year to detail the extra evening runs. This is a service which I have called for since the opening of the Phoenix Park tunnel and is very welcome news” concluded Deputy Lawless.
