The presence of heavy trucks has once more been highlighted at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting on Friday, March 3 last.
The issue came about when Fine Gael councillor Brendan Weld urged KCC ‘to install a footpath from Rathcoffey GAA to the local shop for health and safety reasons.’
In response, KCC said to Cllr Weld in its report: "In order to construct a footpath from Rathcoffey GAA to the local shop agreement will have to be reached with the affected landowners.
“The distance of footpath required is approximately 300 metres and would cost in the region of €100,000 plus public lighting and accommodation works to affected boundaries.
KCC added: "There is no funding available in the budget for 2023 for these works."
Cllr Weld admitted that he was disappointed by the response.
He said: "I understand that there are problems here, but can a piece of footpath be put down from the junction at Painestown Cross to the (nearby) shop?"
Cllr Weld said that the area is 'very mucky'.
He claimed that, as a result, people are being made to walk out on the road, one which heavy trucks often use.
Engineer Cyril Buggie said that KCC made an application for funding to the National Transport Authority, which could potentially benefit the area, but received no answer.
"We will seek funding again," he reassured Cllr Weld.
The Clane politician also asked if a curb could be installed, but Mr Buggie once more stressed that the issue 'again, comes down to funding.'
