Fourth class pupils at Scoil Mhuire, Newbridge
Agri Aware in collaboration with Dole Ireland visited Scoil Mhuire Senior School, Ballymany, Newbridge, as part of the Incredible Edibles Healthy Eating Week.
Fourth class pupils in Scoil Mhuire Senior School have been taking part in the Agri Aware healthy food programme where they learn to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
Healthy Eating Week has been ongoing since Monday, May 8 and concluded today, Friday, May 12.
The challenge for the week is to eat seven a day for seven days – which is the recommended amount for those aged five and over from Healthy Ireland and the HSE. Schools will also fill out a food diary available on the Incredible Edibles website.
By taking to the classroom, the hope is that it will encourage pupils to bring home ideas to get the family involved by bringing their healthy eating learnings home with them.
The fruit and vegetables supplied throughout the week are kindly donated by Dole Ireland, the world’s leading premier fresh produce provider. Pupils not only get to take home a goodie bag for themselves, but the whole school also received free fresh fruit to help them on their Healthy Eating Week Challenge.
Dole is one of fifteen sponsors of the Agri Aware Incredible Edibles programme, which is impacting near 80,000 primary children this year alone. The Agri Aware team and Dole Ireland took in schools in Louth, Meath and Kildare this past
week. This exciting week comes ahead of Bord Bia’s Bloom in the Phoenix Park on the June bank holiday.
At Bloom, up to 1,000 Incredible Edibles project pupils will attend and receive an educational tour of the farmyard – run by Agri Aware and the Bord Bia/Department of Agriculture exhibit in the Food Village area. Lastly, keep an eye out on our social channels to be in with a chance to win a fantastic competition which will see the winner receive a ninja food processor and a family pass to Emerald Park, in Co Meath (formerly Tayto Park).
