Uisce Éireann (Irish Water) is working in partnership with Kildare and South Dublin County Councils as they continue to progress the Celbridge Local Sewer Network Reinforcement Project.

Since the works commenced in July 2022, nearly 5 kilometres of the upgrade work on the Dublin Road (R403) has been completed, and it is expected that all works will be completed by the end of September of this year.

This phase of essential works will involve the final installation of a new rising main sewer pipeline along the R403 (Dublin Road), from the junction of Young’s Cross to the Lucan Road Roundabout.

Commenting on the project, Padraig Hanly, Regional Delivery Lead at Uisce Éireann said: "Working with our colleagues in Kildare and South Dublin County Councils, we are very happy that so much progress has been made on this vital project.

"A sewer network that is fit for purpose is essential in order to support business and social development in the community; not only will these works support existing and future residential and commercial development, but they will also improve the overall performance of the sewer network."

Acknowledging the support of the local community, Mr Hanly added: "We fully understand that the works may cause disruption to commuters and local road users and our crews will continue to make every effort to minimise disruption and complete the project as quickly as possible.

"In order to complete these works as efficiently as possible, 24-hour works will be in operation during both weekends to minimise the impact on the local community."

"We thank the people of Celbridge for their patience as these works progress and know that the long-term benefits will far outweigh the short-term inconvenience," he concluded.

To minimise the impact of the project on local commuters and complete the works as efficiently as possible, two separate weekend road closures in July have been granted by Kildare County Council (KCC).

Road closures will be in operation from late evening Friday, July 7, until the early morning of the Monday, July 10, and again late evening of Friday, July 14, until the early morning of Monday, July 17.

Diversion routes will be in operation during this period and a map illustrating the road closure area and associated diversion routes can be viewed below.

KCC has said that mergency traffic and access for residents will be maintained at all times.

This phase of the project is being delivered by Coffey Construction Limited on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Additional local communications have taken place with letter drops being delivered to residents/businesses and VMS (Variable Message Signs) being installed in the area.

KCC, Uisce Éireann, and South Dublin County Council have all said that they 'regret any inconvenience that this essential project may cause.'

Uisce Éireann's customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact the organisation on Twitter @IWCare with any of their queries.
