Kildare County Council (KCC) has been urged to 'keep the pressure' on a planned roads project in North Kildare.

Fine Gael councillor Tim Durkan made the request during the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which was held on Friday, July 7 last.

At the meeting, Cllr Durkan put forward the following motion: "That the council put the proposed Celbridge Road, Maynooth upgrade project out on public consultation this coming October."

His motion was seconded by Labour Party Cllr Angela Feeney.

In response to his motion, KCC noted in its report at the meeting: "National Transport Authority (NTA) funded projects are required to be delivered in accordance with the NTA Project Approval Guidelines (PAGs), and when the process in relation to the option selection and preliminary design stages of the PAGs is approved by the NTA, the Project can proceed to statutory public consultation.

"The Sustainable Transport Section is working with the NTA to respond to their queries and bring the project forward in Q4."

Cllr Durkan said that he noted the response contained within the report, but also stressed to KCC the importance of the project for schoolchildren and their parents.

He elaborated: "There are 750 students in two different schools nearby. I would stress that the meeting should take place by October, for the sake of the parents."

His sentiments were supported by Cllr Feeney, who added: "I think that this will be some good news for the parents and students of the schools."
