More visible progress is needed for Public Realms projects, Kildare councillor says

The comments were made by Fianna Fáil councillor Anne Connolly at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting.

A Fianna Fáil councillor has called for more visible progress regarding Public Realms projects in the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD).

Cllr Anne Connolly made the comments at the latest MD meeting, which was held on Wednesday, September 20 last.

After a brief update on Public Realms projects in the MD was given to members, Cllr Connolly made it clear that she wished to see more clarity and action surrounding the projects currently being developed by Kildare County Council (KCC).

Cllr Connolly explained: "This is the final year (of the present council), but there appears to be a lack of (overall) progress in many different projects.

"We see what’s happening behind the scenes, but to the general public, (they) are not seeing anything being done."

Re-emphasising her point, Cllr Connolly told KCC: "I would like to see something (being done)."

Her concerns were echoed by Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender, who also briefly brought up the issue surrounding planters in Newbridge.

In response to Cllr Connolly’s comments, a representative of KCC said that 'additional funding would be required' in order to progress a number of projects in the Public Realms section.

A separate representative for KCC also told Cllr Pender that KCC is currently 'working on a solution' regarding the planters in Newbridge.
