A Newbridge mother had a surprise meeting with a garda who helped rush her and her sick baby to hospital six years ago.
Orlane Powell was on her way from KDoc in Naas when she came across a checkpoint on the Newbridge Road by Garda Ronan Mannion and Garda June Lyons.
Minutes earlier, Orlane had been referred to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise by a KDoc doctor.
After hearing about the urgent situation, the gardaí gave Orlane a high-speed escort to Portlaoise behind the Garda car.
Orlane said the good news story went viral on social media and appeared in newspapers.
However, this week, she had a chance encounter with Garda Mannion who is now retiring from the force.
Orlane said: "Last night by coincidence Garda Mannion came into my work in Naas Court Hotel for his retirement party.
"He will forever be my hero and I wish him the best of luck in his retirement."
