The Minister for Education, Norma Foley, has confirmed that an extension for an all-girls secondary school in Newbridge has been approved.
Earlier this month, extra classrooms at primary and secondary levels were confirmed for the wider Newbridge area.
Now, Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O'Loughlin, who is based in Newbridge, has welcomed the news.
Senator O'Loughlin, who is also a former teacher and her party's spokesperson on educational matters, said: "I was delighted to have received confirmation from my colleague Minister Norma Foley that initial project approval has been granted to Holy Family Secondary School for an extension and refurbishment project."
"The project approval is for: eight mainstream classrooms, three science labs, two prep areas, a music room, a textiles room, a graphics room, a home economics room and four special educational needs (SEN) class bases with ancillary accommodation."
She added: "This will be a significant project and is a huge endorsement of the whole school community at the Holy Family Secondary School, and I will continue to work behind the scenes to support this project and indeed many others around South Kildare."
