Anger management could be considered for a man who admitted to assaulting another man in County Kildare over a dispute.

The man appeared before substitute judge Nicola-Jane Andrews at Naas District Court on Thursday, July 18.

Judge Andrews was informed by gardaí present in the court that the man grabbed the injured party by the neck and pushed him back.

The other man did not sustain any injuries.

A garda told the court that the injured party had upset the man's wife, and that the man 'became angry, and things got out of hand'.

Defending solicitor Joe Coonan also told the judge that he had seen video footage of the incident and described it as 'a pushing and shoving match.'

The court was told that the man has three previous convictions relating to breaches of a domestic violence order, stemming from a previous relationship.

Mr Coonan told the judge that his client was 'hugely apologetic' over his actions on the day of the incident.

He said that his client had lost his job, and suffered from depression, which led to him abusing cocaine.

"His prior relationship failed as a result of this," he added.

Mr Coonan further said: "He should not have gone to the injured party's house; he should have let the wheels of justice turn."

He also submitted to the court that his client's actions 'were a reaction to his own circumstances' at the time.

In additon, he said that his client wished to apologise to the prosecuting garda over the incident as well.

Judge Andrews replied by telling Mr Coonan that she had concerns about his client's behaviour.

She ordered for Mr Coonan's client to liase with probation services, and also adjourned the case to a later date to allow time for a victim impact statement.

The judge also noted that an anger management course may be required for Mr Coonan's client.

She remanded the man on continuing bail until the case resumes.
