Athy GAA have come under fire online after one video of their Kildare SFC celebrations was widely-shared and seen by nearly 280,000 people on X yesterday.

The criticism followed a video of Athy players leading a chant to fans directed at Naas and Senior Football Championship Final opposition manager Philly McMahon.

The video, which includes the line "Philly McMahon, get back to the flats" has been deemed "a poverty chant" by some in the aftermath.

Other replies to the original post have called the behaviour "really poor" and "shameful" while some have shared the video independently and defended the activity in the midst of the celebrations as "a bit of craic in the GAA."
