Councillor Angela Feeney selected as Labour Party candidate for General Election

Labour Party members, supporters and representatives gathered in a packed Straffan Community Hall to select Cllr. Angela Feeney as the party's candidate for Kildare North in the next general election. 

On Tuesday evening, over 50 people turned out as Senator Mark Wall and national organiser Aideen Blackwood conducted the formalities. 

Cllr. Feeney’s nomination was proposed and seconded by councilors Ann Breen and Rupert Heather. 

On being selected, Cllr. Feeney said, 'I am delighted to accept the party's nomination as the Labour candidate for North Kildare in the General Election. 

'I have successfully contested two elections to Kildare County Council and during my time on the Council I have worked tirelessly to support the community and resolve the issues that impact people here. 

'This has included lobbying the government to improve childcare provision, seeking solutions to address the unacceptable waiting lists for health facilities, keeping pressure on the developer to address key issues in Mullen Park and fighting for key amenities and affordable housing in the area. 

‘While the date of the General Election has not been set, Cllr. Feeney continued, I can assure the community in North Kildare that I am ready for the challenge.' 

The venue, Straffan Community Hall, was chosen to honour the remarkable contribution of the late Emmet Stagg to politics in North Kildare. He was fondly remembered for his outstanding commitment to North Kildare by those in attendance, including his wife, Mary.
