KILDARE: Tributes paid to former Naas factory boss and Naas GAA chairman

The late Barney McPoland

Tributes have been paid to a well-known Naas resident who was chairman of Naas GAA and ran a local factory.

A native of Belfast, Bernard (Barney) McPoland was managing director of the former Kingswear Factory on the Newbridge Road in Naas.

Mr McPoland was also a former chairman of Naas and served in this role from 1969-73.

Mr McPoland, who passed away peacefully in Orwell Nursing Home, Rathgar, is sadly missed by his wife Kathleen and children John, Brenda, Tony, Paddy and Maureen.

He will also be mourned by his grandchildren James, Ben, Amy, Isobel, Georgia and Adam; his sons and daughters in-law Aldagh, Jules, Phoebe, Aidan and Tim, and extended family and friends.

Removal takes place on this Tuesday to The Church of Our Lady and St. David, Naas, arriving for 12 noon Mass.

Burial will take place immediately afterwards to St. Corban’s Cemetery.

The family has kindly requested that donations, if desired, be made to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, a charity very close to Mr McPoland's heart.
