BREAKING: Emergency services at scene of helicopter crash in Kildare

Emergency services are at the scene of a helicopter crash in the Brannockstown, near Kilcullen. 

The aircraft is believed to have encountered difficulties and fell onto a field in the Kennycourt area, off the main R412 road to Dunlavin.

There has been no confirmation of how many people were in the helicopter or the extent of any injuries. 

Gardaí said the scene has been sealed off.

A statement from the Garda Press Office said: "Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a helicopter crash in Kilcullen, Co. Kildare this evening Sunday, 11th December 2022.

"The light helicopter crashed in a field in the Kilcullen area.

"The scene is currently being held by Gardaí.

"The Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) has been notified."

The The Air Accident Investigation Unit said three inspectors have been sent to the scene to begin an investigation. 

A statement said:

"The AAIU has been notified of an occurrence involving a light helicopter approximately 6km south-east of Kilcullen, Co. Kildare.

"Three Inspectors of Air Accidents are deploying to the site to commence an investigation."
