Kildare firms invited to enter Irish Food Awards

Entries are now open to producers across Co Kildare and the island of Ireland for this year’s Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards.
Rye River Brewing won an Award last year.
Simon Broderick from Rye River Brewing said “We are very proud of our Blas Na hEireann awards.
"They have helped us to boost sales at home and abroad. We also were delighted to be featured on the Blas Na hEireann stand at the 2016 BITE festival in the RDS.
"We are looking forward to working with them again in 2017.”
The Awards, which are in their 10th year, take place at the Dingle Food Festival in late September. Last year there were more than 2500 entries in what are the largest blind-tasted Food Awards on the island.
Buyers from independent stores and major retail chains are among those to come meet the finalist producers in Dingle. It is seen as one of the most important events of year in the food and drink industry. A Buyers Directory which is circulated post-awards with a list of winners and their contacts has now become a go-to reference for trade both in Ireland and overseas.
Entrants testify that winning an award has a definite impact on sales.
Andrew Wynne from Nutmost in Moone also says it has been a “huge boost” for his company.
“As a start-up and launching a new product line, hundreds of hours have gone into getting the product just right. To receive an accolade like this gives you great pride internally but also credibility externally. We noticed not just a boost in sales but it also opened up many doors in terms of new suppliers and credibility within the food industry. It's also a very enjoyable weekend in Dingle!!”
“These are what I call the People’s Awards” said Awards Chairperson, Artie Clifford
“Our judging system is very rigorous. Our judges come from a range of food backgrounds; they are food scientists, chefs, restaurateurs, academics, journalists, authors, food champions, caterers and enthusiastic home cooks.
“Every product that carries a Finalist, Gold, Silver or Bronze sticker is picked up more quickly than those without. Our research has shown that the Blas accreditation has the highest recognition amongst Irish consumers and using the award logo on pack has made a significant difference to businesses.”
The final entry date is June 14th, 2017.
