The driver now faces a charge of dangerous driving

Kildare’s Naas Roads Policing Unit recently detected a driver travelling at 175 km/h on the M4 near Maynooth during a speed enforcement operation in North Kildare.

The driver now faces a charge of Dangerous Driving- and risks a disqualification from driving for up to two years, a fine of up to €5,000 and/or up to six months'] imprisonment.

A garda spokesperson said of the offence: “Is this speed acceptable? Absolutely not.

At 175 km/h, one mistake can have devastating consequences.

“This wasn't impressive driving - it was an extraordinary risk to every other person using the motorway.

“Speed limits are there to protect lives. Showing off behind the wheel isn't worth risking your life, your licence or someone else's family.”
