A man who was convicted of manslaughter appeared before Naas District Court from prison in connection with shoplifting allegations.

Ryan Kearney, who previously had an address in Leixlip, was convicted in July 2025 of the manslaughter of  50-year-old Jeffrey Jackson, at The Lamps, School Street, Kilcock, on February 8, 2024.

He was prosecuted for stealing items, including Budweiser beer and grocery items on the same date.

The court was told that the items were taken from the Lidl and Tesco stores in Kilcock.

The court was also told that he has a release date in 2030.

It was stated on the defendant's behalf that he is doing well in prison and is seeking a move to an open prison.

The defendant said he was keen to have matters heard because the delay could have an impact on his move to the open facility.

Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed a nine months term on the defendant and he said this will run with the sentence he is serving.
