Newbridge United FC U21s team made history on Sunday being the first team from Kildare to win the U21 Leinster Football League title (LFL). They’ve done it in style too with one game to spare, this achievement highlights the continued success of a squad who has dominated at youth level having previously won back to back league and cup doubles at U20 level in the KDFL last season.

Newbridge came out 4-1 winners on Sunday versus a tough Laytown FC to be crowned champions. After going a goal behind Newbridge drew level after a corner from James Mahony found midfielder Conor Walsh to head the ball into the back of the net and bring the game all square at half-time.

Early in the second half Newbridge upped the gears, James Mahony again played a ball across the Laytown box which was smartly finished over the keeper by striker Keane Kennedy 2-1.

Both teams fought hard throughout but the advantage would go to Newbridge when a ball over the top from captain Cian Delaney was smartly chased down by Dennis Kave to give Newbridge some breathing space late in the game.

Laytown to their credit never gave up and pushed late on to try and get back into the game but on the 85th minute the game was put to bed when defender Callum Sinclair broke into the midfield and played a perfect through ball to Striker Keane Kennedy, who made no mistake in front of goal and slotted it under the keeper to finish the game at 4-1.

Man of the match was Keane Kennedy with two fantastic goals on the day to add to his unbelievable work leading the line.

The Newbridge team will now set their eyes on the possible Leinster league and cup double.
