Irish Rail has said that some train services to and from Heuston Station are running over two hours behind schedule due to an earlier incident. 

As a result, services stopping in Co Kildare such as at Newbridge, Kildare town and Monasterevin may be 140 minutes late. 

Irish Rail said: "Services operating to/from Heuston station this evening are experiencing delays due to an earlier incident at Adamstown.

"Some services are operating approximately 140 minutes behind schedule."

Irish Rail had earlier reported at around 3.45pm that services were suspended between Heuston and Kildare 'due to an incident on the line'.

Around two hours later, services had resumed through Adamstown station and Irish Rail advised that 'services will experience delays as a result of the stoppage .'
