Coillte, Ireland’s semi-state forestry company, is encouraging Kildare students interested in a career in forestry to apply for its 2025 Forestry Scholarship Award ahead of the 2nd May deadline for applications.
The scholarship, which is open to Leaving Certificate or mature students who are planning to enrol in one of the eligible forestry third level undergraduate courses, sees up to €5,000 being offered per recipient, per year of their degree.
Building on the success of its inaugural programme, which saw scholarships being awarded to three students, the scholarship provides substantial financial and career support for those pursuing a full-time, third level forestry programme at University College Dublin (UCD) or South East Technological University (SETU). Alongside the financial contribution, recipients of this scholarship will also benefit from paid summer placements and potential career opportunities with Coillte.
Forestry presents an exciting opportunity for a career with sustainability at its core, while technological innovation continues to transform the sector. Modern foresters can pursue a wide range of careers including;
Resource planners who use sophisticated information technology and satellite imagery to develop strategic forest management plans;
Ecologists working to protect and enhance biodiversity and important habitats;
Supply-chain managers working to co-ordinate the supply of sustainably grown Irish wood products;
Recreation managers working with communities and developing and maintaining outdoor recreation trails and activities for people to enjoy.
Speaking about the scholarship’s impact, inaugural scholar, Alex Power, said: “Receiving the Coillte scholarship has opened doors for me. It’s not just the financial support—it’s being part of a sector that plays such an important role in tackling climate change and supporting rural communities.”
Applications for the 2025 Coillte Forestry Scholarship Programme are closing Friday 2nd May 2025, for more information visit www.coillte.ie.
