Tourism potential of Kildare bog should be explored

A report on the value of acres of bogland in Kildare should be carried out by Kildare County Council.

Fianna Fáil councillor Brian O'Loughlin wants the independent report to assess the environmental, heritage and tourism/community amenity value of the Kildare portion of the Ballydermot Bog Group, which lies roughly between Rathangan and Edenderry.

"The environmental assessment should include the biodiversity potential and carbon sequestration of these peatlands to be rehabilitated for present and future generations following decades of peat extraction by Bord na Mona and proposed wind
farm project developments on these boglands," added the councillor.

This will be progressed at a KCC meeting.
