Number of unaccompanied learner drivers on Kildare's roads revealed

The number of learner drivers detected driving unaccompanied in Co Kildare over the last three years has been revealed.

Statistics disclosed by the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Deputy Jim O'Callaghan show the number of vehicles seized from learner drivers for 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The Minister was responding to a parliamentary question put forward by Kildare North TD, Deputy Aidan Farrelly (SD).

Deputy Farrelly called for the number of vehicles seized and or impounded by Gardai, by county in 2023, 2024 and to date in 2025 in respect of learner drivers not being accompanied by a full licence holder, in tabular form.

The figures released by the Minister detail the number of vehicles seized from learner drivers for the Kildare/Carlow area, and are as follows:

2023: 449 vehicles

2024: 520 vehicles

2025: 226 vehicles to date.
