The work carried out by locals in Athy, as well as by local Tidy Towns groups, has been praised by a Kildare County Council (KCC) official.
The comments were made at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, June 16 last.
The topic came about after Fianna Fáil councillor Brian Dooley (who appeared at the meeting by virtual means) motioned for KCC to carry out a survey of St Michael's Cemetery Car Park, Athy and to "resurface areas that are in disrepair".
His motion was seconded by his party colleague, Cllr Veralouise Behan.
KCC gave the following response to Cllr Dooley's motion via its report it presented at the meeting: "A survey of the car park has been carried out and no works are planned as the surface is considered to be in good condition.”
KCC also said: "Any future works are subject to the relevant funding being available in the annual budget programme."
In addition, Ken Kavanagh, KCC's senior executive officer for its environment department, said that he wanted to "commend the work of both locals and Tidy Towns groups [in this region]."
